QiGong's Water Element

The Metal Element - Lungs & Large Intestine
The Water Element
In TCM, the Yin aspect of the water element is associated with the Kidneys while the Yang aspect is associated with the Urinary Bladder.  The kidneys sit either side of the spine in the middle of one's back behind the ribs.  The left kidney is slightly higher than the right because the right kidney is pushed down slightly owing to the 'largeness' of the liver.

For more information on the Water Element, the kidneys and urinary bladder, see Chris Shelton's book; 'QiGong for Self-Refinement'.

 Kidney Activity

The Kidneys are most active between 5pm and 7pm.

Optimal Direction

To optimize the effectiveness of Qigong cleansing practices, each element in the 5 element Qigong lineage has a compass direction one should face when practicing it.
Water Compass Direction - North
When one is practicing Water element Qigong (cleansing and balancing the kidneys and the urinary bladder), if it's known to you; face north.
